We graduated!

We had a good appointment today. 8 weeks and 1 day and all looks good. The baby is measuring at 8w 2d and the heartbeat was 167.

Parting is such sweet sorrow! It feels good to be moving on after 23 months, but I will miss them too. I feel a little out of sorts. My RE said I could contact him if I had any questions though, which is nice. He is one of the kindest doctors I have ever had.

From here, my hope is to alternate visits between my midwife (we are planning a home birth) with my OB (you never know how things will go) every two weeks. The next scheduled appointment is with my OB on November 30th, but he might move it up or I might see my midwife first. I will be giving you details on the different experiences.

The one thing I wasn't prepared for is that they want me to continue progesterone supplementation for another 4 weeks! With my own eggs, I was weened off entirely by now. That triggered the "I am such a loser for not using my own eggs" response, but I came around pretty quickly thanks to Brad and a kind coworker.

Anyone have opinions on Pro.metrium pessaries (a term I learned for "vaginal suppository" from Geohde)? I was told to go to talk 1/2 cc of the progesterone in oil and start suppositories 3x / day. After a week I can stop the shots. I opted to continue the shots full strength instead because of all the horror stories I have heard about oozing goo. I welcome opinions on this decision.

For the curious, I have been having pregnancy symptoms, but nothing that has caused me too much discomfort. I am still having a hard time thinking of this pregnancy as a baby, but have been letting things take their course on that front. It seems to be working so far. I hope that I will start feeling like this is not only a baby, but my baby soon.

Kami, congrats on graduating. I too am curious about hearing about your home birth plan. And btw - I did an FET and I am on PIO shots until the end of the first trimester because that's when the placenta takes over progesterone production. Regardless of whose eggs you use, if you didn't ovulate, you have no Corpus Luteum making the progesterone. I'm sure you know this, but just a reminder :) Don't be so hard on yourself. You are doing GREAT.

Thanks Lady In Waiting - I did know it was because I didn't ovulate. I never had anything to freeze, but my plan was always to time it with my natural cycle so I envisioned ovulating on an FET. Still, you are right - it is a matter of perspective.

Congrats Kami, I'm glad all is going well. I was on the PIO injections until 11 weeks then had my level checked and if above 25 I could discontinue.

First of all, congatulations on the graduation. That is such a nice feeling when that happens.

In December 2004 (donor egg cycle), I had to use PIO up to the transfer, and then I could continue with it, change to Crinone gel, or alternate. The gel was so yucky back then, I chose to alternate. I had to continue for 100 days after the positive pregnancy test!

This time, they let me skip the PIO for my FET, I guess because they've changed the formulation of the Crinone gel. It's not nearly as yucky as I remember it being. But I would still have to use it for 100 days after the positive pregnancy test (along with the Estrace)! But, the way things seem to be going with this cycle, I think I'll be able to stop soon. Sigh.

dThat is FABULOUS news!!! I'm quite glad to hear it.

I was not a fan of the vaginal suppositories but I don't think they bothered me as much as some others... I think I might just be weird. Scratch that. Probably. I'm probably (certainly) just odd.

I'm humming the graduation song -- Daaah, da da da Daaaah Daaaaaah,
Daaah, da da da Daaaaaaah.

But something is getting lost in the translation :-).

Throw that mortarboard high in the air and go get stinking drunk!

OK. Scratch that last suggestion. Let Brad do it for you.

Congratulations on graduating!

FWIW, I stayed on progesterone through 12 weeks. I always thought 12 weeks was "normal"... so I don't think you're a loser! ;)

oh and the vag supp's... yuck. I got a nice yeast infection from them. double yuck. :) but still, those PIO shots look scary!

Congrats on the graduation:)

That's just wonderful.

Hoping for a beautifully smooth pregnancy for you.

You know how I feel about the vayjayjay goop pessaries. I'm almost relieved that this cycle failed, since I'm not leaking all damn day now. Well, not pessaries anyroad, the blood is another matter.....:)

Congratulations! I hope everything continues to go great for you!

Here is my take on it: the Promet... makes a dryish goop that is bad on your delicate washables, but not super horrible in general. The compounded progesterone that has to stay in the fridge is the glop from hell. There is some new Endo-something that is supposed to be better...

Good luck! If you go with the goop, get a giant bottle of Woolite!

I was on progesterone pessaries till 12w - cyclogest, which is an oil based thing, a bit like a little wax candle. Did leave my pants very greasy, but best if put in at bedtime, and the morning one in bed and then allow 15 mins to absorb..

congrats on graduating!

Congrats Kami,

This is such great news. Now, despite teh pessaries, you can consider yourself like all of the other pg women in the world. Although you've got a few bumps and bruises from IF, you are going to have a baby and have that happily ever after thing going on!

I'm so excited for your great news.

Better late than never...I am here to add my congrats as well!

I am so envious of your home birth! I always said if we had, had a child I wanted a home birth...but Dh always said NO WAY. So do share, what is the plan...water, bed, what ever happens happens? I am so living vicariously through you!

Yay for all good news!
I'm still on prog. pessaries until the end of the first trimester. The goo isn't all that bad, imo. Actually when I see it, it reassures me that yes, I did remember to "prog" the night before (as my DH calls it - as in, "have you progged yet?" or "don't forget to prog!")
