Views from our Donor

Belinda sent this email the day after our visit to the lawyer. It is reprinted here with her permission.

Hi Kami.

Just thinking of you as I turn in for the night. I hope you had a good day, and get good rest tonight.

I am feeling lonely in my excitement as I have no one to share it with. I suppose this is a good opportunity for me to learn increased independence, though I wasn't looking for one.

Sooo.....I am excited to have a cycle, and about my physical (never thought I would be excited about a pap smear) but I can't wait to find out my antricalfolical count. Still not sure what that is.

It is amazing what an outcast I am. I am an outcast to the world of people trying to conceive, and based on my casual comments to get fertile people's views on egg donation; they are not supportive. Glad I'm not advertising. Interesting, I feel like I'm trying to be so helpful, but I have to hide my fertility at the clinic, and my desire to donate everywhere else.

What I'm trying to say is......thank you for being supportive of me. This would be tough to do with out you.

Wow, what a wonderful email. It's so obvious that her heart is in exactly the right place. I wish she was able to find more support, but hopefully her connection to you will sustain her through the process.

How ironic that Belinda "gets" some of the core emotions of IF.

It's now August, so now you can both say, "Next month..."

I had never imagined she would receive anything but support from ANYone, especially those of us in the infertile community. Wow. What a shame. As far as hiding her fertility goes - I don't believe she should ever have to do that. After all, she is one of the few women who are willing (and able!) to give one of the greatest gifts of all - Hope! It makes me sad to hear that she is not able to share her excitement openly. Although I'm so very glad to hear she is feeling that way! You are both such amazing women - true examples of the power of the human spirit.

This is a great reminder of how we can learn from the experiences and perspectives of other women. It reminds me to disregard our "differences" and realize we're all doing the best we can. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Thank you to all of you who support me. Your comments have left my eyes filled with tears. I anticipated physical discomfort. I did not anticipate loneliness, thank you for helping smooth the rough edges.

It's so nice that you and Belinda are able to get to know each other. This must make you feel wonderful. And she feels supported by you!
